MAG Ireland launches first biker dedicated smart phone app

The Irish Motorcycle Action Group launches what is believed to be the World’s first smart phone app that will connect the motorcycle community online

At The Irish Motorcycle and Scooter Show, RDS, Dublin (March1st, 2013) – MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) Ireland, today announced the official launch of their new smart phone app.

MAG Ireland is a voluntary body made up of an elected board and regional executive councils, committed to supporting all riders of powered two (and three) wheelers. MAG Ireland promotes motorcycling as a positive commuter alternative for urban dwellers, as a viable option for the rural community and as a fun leisure activity for enthusiasts. From its premises at Merrion Square the team at MAG Ireland in association with Carole Nash Insurance have gone one further and developed a smart phone app that will benefit Irish motorcycling as well as becoming the one-stop-shop for everything bike related. This is a logical progression for us” stated Victor Donnelly MAG Ireland PRO and Vice-Chairman. “The mobile platform is an ideal vehicle for us to utilise as it allows us to promote MAG Ireland in a positive way, generate awareness of our organisation and give something back to the motorcycle community”.

The introduction of app technology to the motorcycle community is not a new phenomenon, with most of the leading manufacturers investing heavily in mobile technology. “The MAG Ireland approach is somewhat different” said Donnelly “We’re utilising the mobile arena in a way that will benefit Irish bikers by allowing them to access information on events, meetings, traffic news, weather forecasts and best of all a complete directory of the motorcycle dealer network throughout the country”.

Victor Donnelly also states “The Irish biking community are becoming more sophisticated and the increase in smart phone technology means we have to adjust” he said. “We are always interested in new ways to accommodate the flow of information, we have a small window of opportunity and we need to ensure accurate and up to date information is made available, quickly. The smart phone app is an ideal and logical medium to use”.

The app’s core function is to act as a mobile directory of motorcycle related businesses such as Main Dealers, Bike Breakers, Engineers, IBT & Training etc and through constant updated information and accurately identify where these properties are located by utilising the benefits of Google Map technology. Key to the app’s success will be a dedicated ‘route plan’ that will give accurate street-by-street information on how to get to a property from any location in Ireland, an ideal tool for the transient biker who may require the services of a professional. Other interesting items include a ‘What’s On’, ‘Weather’ and ‘News’ tab’s. There is also a dedicated tab for the official app sponsors, Carole Nash with everything you need to know about insuring your bike or scooter and personal belongings.

We are delighted that our friends at Carole Nash were on-hand to support us in this exciting initiative which we believe to be the first of its kind in the World” said Donnelly “and because of the generous support from Carole Nash we are able to promote businesses and events, at no charge and with our compliments”.

The MAG Ireland app is now available as a free download from the iPhone App Store and Google Play Market. Details on how to upload your motorcycle related business or event to the MAG Ireland app are available on the MAG Ireland web site.
