The Car that Launched a Legend

A grand Prix car driven by Ayrton Senna da Silva in his debut F1 season, in 1984, will go under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ spring sale on May 16.

The car, a Toleman TG184-2, is best known for Senna’s second place drive in the rain-soaked 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, arguably the race which first demonstrated his talents to the world and launched a career that would include three world championship titles.

The Toleman TG184-2 racecar, which Senna also raced to third in the British and seventh in the Canadian GPs, has been in private ownership for the past 16 years.

Senna, who was killed in an accident as he was leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, is regarded among the greatest of Formula One drivers. He won his first championship driving for McLaren-Honda in 1988,  and in 1990 and 1991. During his ten year career he won a total of 41 races.
