The New Volkswagen Up!

Volkswagens smallest model the Up has arrived in dealerships around the country. This very clever and compact city car has tiny dimensions and yet manages incredible interior space.

Prices start from €10,995 for the entry level Take up! and rises to €12,895 for the High Up! model. Running costs are low with the Up returning 4.7 l/100km (60.1mpg) on the combined cycle . Emissions of just 108g/km means it is in Band A for Motor Tax so will cost €160 annually.

Available with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine options and three trim levels – Take up!, Move up! and High up! Take Up! Is  the entry level model, Move Up!, adds manual air conditioning, body-coloured mirrors and handles, and the variable boot floor. High Up, gains leather trimmed three spoke steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake grip, 15″ alloy wheels, front fog lights, heated front seats, a dashpad in Black pearl with black pearl inserts and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.

There is also a host of safety features including ABS and four airbags. Standard on the Up! is a City Emergency Braking system. This is a system that scans a space of 10 metres in front of the car and detects if there is an object, stationary or moving, that is likely to collide with the car. If the driver has made no reaction to the object then the braking system is automatically engaged.

A five-door version will join the line-up later this year and a  fully electric version is likely to arrive  at the end of 2013.
